Born on January 11, 1945, in Nemra village of Ramgarh (then Bihar), Shibu Soren was deeply affected by the plight of tribal communities. He founded the Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM) in the early 1970s, aiming to fight for the rights of tribal people and demand a separate state.
He was at the forefront of the Jharkhand statehood movement, which culminated in the formation of Jharkhand as a separate state on November 15, 2000. Without his unwavering fight, Jharkhand as we know it today may never have come into existence.
