As India gears up for crucial state elections, the Election Commission of India (ECI) has launched an extensive drive to revise and clean up the voter rolls. Especially in Bihar, where Assembly Elections are due in October–November 2025, big developments are taking place. Whether you’re a first-time voter, a student, or someone who has shifted cities, this update is for you.
On August 1, 2025, the ECI released Bihar’s draft electoral roll as part of its Special Intensive Revision (SIR). The numbers are massive — out of 7.89 crore registered electors, nearly 7.24 crore submitted updated forms. That’s a 91.7% participation rate—a clear sign of active citizenship!
However, the ECI also proposes to remove 65 lakh names that are either duplicates, of deceased persons, or marked as “untraceable.” This move has sparked concerns over the possible exclusion of genuine voters, especially migrants and economically weaker sections.
Here’s the good news: If your name is missing or wrongly deleted, you still have a chance!
🗓️ Last Date to File Claims/Objections: September 1, 2025
👤 Verification by BLO/ERO: Till September 25, 2025
You can file your claim or correction using Form 8 at voters.eci.gov.in or by visiting your local Booth Level Officer (BLO).
🧓 Special camps are being organized for:
Elderly voters
Persons with disabilities
First-time voters
Women and migrant workers
Although the ECI has assured that no name will be removed without proper verification, experts warn that nearly 74 lakh voters could be left out if they miss the deadline or fail to verify their identity.
🧾 The Supreme Court has also intervened, urging ECI to accept commonly used IDs like:
Aadhaar
Ration Card
Voter ID
It emphasized that transparency and inclusivity must not be compromised during this critical revision process.
In a historic first, Bihar launched mobile e-voting during its municipal bypolls in June 2025. The app-based voting system allowed:
Pregnant women
Senior citizens
Persons with disabilities
Migrant laborers
to vote from home. The result? A sharp jump in turnout—from 54.6% at physical booths to 70.2% using mobile voting.
📲 If successful, this model may soon be adopted nationwide, particularly benefiting NRIs and differently-abled voters.
Post-Maharashtra elections, allegations emerged regarding Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs) being tampered with.
But after detailed cross-verification of VVPAT slips, the ECI reaffirmed that no tampering occurred. It labeled the “vote theft” allegations by Rahul Gandhi as politically motivated and baseless.
ECI reiterated that:
“EVMs remain tamper-proof and fully secure.”
